Crash Course on Legal Ethics for Students

With support from the USAID Rule of Law Program, the New Vision University Legal Ethics Chair, together with Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, conducted a crash course on Legal Ethics for students in Batumi.

The crash course on Legal Ethics helped the students understand the ethical dimension of decision-making in advocacy, enabling them to manage the ethical challenges they will encounter in their legal practice. The course included a series of lectures on legislation regulating legal practice, as well as a comparative analysis of Georgian, U.S. and European regulations on lawyers’ professional responsibilities. An exemption from the legal ethics lectures until the midterm exam can be granted to all students who attended the crash course. The grade obtained at the end of the crash course will be considered as a midterm exam and the corresponding score will be given. The course was led by Ms. Ana Loria, the New Vision University Legal Ethics co-chair, a member of Georgian Bar Association Ethics Commission, and a lawyer. In total, nine students and two law professors attended the crash course.

The New Vision University Legal Ethics Chair has been cooperating with the Batumi State University Faculty of Law and Social Sciences for several years. Within the framework of this cooperation, the New Vision Legal Ethics Chair organized public lectures, roundtables and discussions at Batumi State University. With support from the USAID Rule of Law Program, the New Vision University Legal Ethics Chair plans to conduct legal ethics crash courses in other regional universities as well.
