ISFED will assist public employees who have been discriminated against or dismissed from work on political grounds. The project will also pursue the strategic litigation of cases that involve limitations on the freedom of the media or journalists’ right to free expression, raise public awareness about the rights of journalists and the discrimination they suffer in their workplace, and advocate for the effective implementation of international best practices in areas such as freedom of the media and depoliticization of the public sector.
ISFED will work on protecting the freedom of political expression in the civil service, while its partner, the Georgian Democracy Initiative, will focus primarily on cases involving frivolous defamation lawsuits, attacks on journalists and Georgian National Communication Commission’s decisions imposing liability on the critical media.
Project coverage area: Tbilisi, Batumi, Zugdidi, Kutaisi, Gori, Bolnisi, Marneuli, Gurjaani.
