With USAID Rule of Law Program support, the Imereti-based civil society organization Informational Developer HUB (IDH) trained 12 high school and university students from Kutaisi in game and graphic design. This group will go on to develop board games on the rights of the child, women's rights, and freedom of belief. Board games creation is intended to facilitate learning while maintaining an element of fun. This innovative method also promotes collaboration, inquiry, and critical thinking.
The students attended seminars in graphic and game design in November and December of 2023. Twenty sessions were conducted in total. During the game design seminars, the students learned about the history of board games, their categories, mechanics, terminology, components, and about famous publishers and designers.
The graphic design course equipped students with theoretical and practical knowledge of Adobe Illustrator panels, artboards, fonts, and ways of using pen-tool. The theoretical knowledge and practical experience provided will allow the students to build the games correctly, and to make the visual elements of the games appealing.
Participating students were pleased and grateful for the experience. Dachi Cheishvili reported, “The seminar in game design was very interesting because we learned how to create games in a fun and interesting way.”
Ninth grade student Anita Khurtsidze stated, “The graphic design trainings were very interesting. To be honest, at first, I was afraid that I might not understand the material, but with the help of our trainer, that fear soon disappeared and I started studying. And now I'm proud of my progress.”
IDH’s project, implemented with the USAID Rule of Law Program support, will enhance young people’s understanding of human rights by engaging them in creating board games and organizing pilot game sessions for Kutaisi students.
