With support from the USAID Rule of Law Program, the Imereti-based civil society organization Informational Developer HUB (IDH) developed board games focused on the rights of the child, women's rights, and freedom of religion.
This initiative was carried out in collaboration with 12 high schools and university students from Kutaisi selected through a competitive process and trained in game and graphic design.
The board games were created to facilitate learning while maintaining an element of fun, promoting collaboration, and encouraging critical thinking. This innovative method helps participants acquire technical skills and research information on human rights in an enjoyable fashion.
Over the course of two months, the youth group underwent extensive training in graphic and board game design, enabling them to create these educational tools.
Following the successful completion of their training and workshops, the student group developed the content, mechanics, and visual aspects of the board games. They created prototypes, assembled designs, and produced the final versions of the games. From June 10 to June 26, 2024, they held seven game sessions at youth centers in Kutaisi, where young people were given the opportunity to play the newly created games. A total of 102 participants took part in the games.
One participant noted, "I learned about the rights of the child during the game. I think this process would be very interesting in a classroom environment as well."
Reflecting on the experience, another participant said, "I remembered real-life examples of discrimination because often women's rights are not protected, and awareness is low. Therefore, similar situations are numerous."
