Mock Trials and Mediation in Labor Law

On January 29, 2024, New Vision University in cooperation with the Akaki Tsereteli State University hosted oral rounds of Mock Trials and Mediation in Labor Law in Kutaisi to enhance practical skills of law students in regional universities.

This initiative, made possible with the support of the USAID Rule of Law Program, marked a significant step towards fostering experiential learning opportunities.

Bachelor's and master's level law students from regional universities were eligible to participate in the mock trials. The project spanned three months, during which participating teams underwent comprehensive training in legal writing. They were tasked with drafting memorials on given cases, receiving guidance and feedback along the way. Ultimately, four teams—two from Akaki Tsereteli State University and two from Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University—participated in the mock trials, showcasing their acquired skills in trial advocacy and mediation.

Throughout the simulated legal proceedings, expert - judges, comprising of the practicing lawyers, provided invaluable feedback to the participating teams. Their insights and critiques served to enrich the learning experience and refine the students' courtroom and mediation techniques. Upon the conclusion of the mock trials and mediation sessions, outstanding teams were recognized and awarded certificates, textbooks, and branded gifts.

Reflecting on their participation, students expressed profound appreciation for the learning opportunity afforded by the project. Tiko Tinikashvili, a participating student, highlighted the project's role in shaping her professional development, emphasizing the value of practical experience gained through mock trials and mediation. Similarly, Lali Kiknavelidze emphasized the project's role in deepening her understanding of the legal profession and the significance of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms like mediation.

Mock Trials and Mediation in Labor Law play a role in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills, equipping aspiring legal professionals with the expertise needed to navigate real-world legal challenges effectively.
