On October 2, the Akhaltsikhe Adult Education Center (“the Center”) launched Justice at Your Service, an initiative set to run until March 31, 2025, with support from the USAID Rule of Law Program (“the Program”).
The initiative will educate citizens of the Akhaltsikhe and Adigeni municipalities on how to better access the justice system. Planned activities include informational meetings in Adigeni and Akhaltsikhe municipalities to familiarize residents with the justice system.
Educational materials, such as articles, quizzes, and summaries of court cases from local and international practices will be shared on the Center’s webpage to demystify legal concepts. Bookmarks with legal service contacts and a glossary of legal terms will be distributed among community members.
A “Law Club” will also be established to foster youth interest in the legal profession. The Club will host monthly sessions with legal professionals, facilitate visits to Legal Aid Service offices, and organize a moot trial, offering young participants practical exposure to the justice system. In addition, a group of local youth will be given the opportunity to meet with legal professionals and learn about court operations.
At the launch, Tamar Kapanadze, Director of the Center, explained how the initiative will raise public awareness of legal services and foster youth engagement. Giorgi Chkheidze, Chief of Party for the Program, welcomed over 30 attendees, detailed the Program’s broader goals and explained how the Program uses its Akhaltsikhe Rule of Law Hub to support justice reform initiatives in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region.
This initiative is expected to contribute to a more informed and engaged community by offering educational resources, facilitating direct interactions with legal professionals, and encouraging active civic participation.
