On March 14, 2024, the USAID Rule of Law Program through its Akhaltsikhe Rule of Law Hub, organized a roundtable discussion focusing on the professional ethics of lawyers.
Ekaterine Gasitashvili, Supreme Court Judge, and Otar Kachkachashvili, a member of the Georgian Bar Association's Ethics Commission, led the session which included 17 practicing lawyers from Akhaltsikhe, Borjomi, and Akhalkalaki, along with three Akhaltsikhe Court personnel.
The group discussed such topics as attorney-client communication through verbal, written, and audio-visual means, attorney compensation, and the client-lawyer relationship.
They discussed the importance of advisory opinions – a service provided by the Ethics Commission for its members that helps prevent ethical misconduct and modern challenges related to the ethical behavior of legal professionals on social networks.
Throughout the session, participants received insights from Judge Gasitashvili and Mr. Kachkachashvili regarding common ethical challenges in the legal profession.
