The USAID Rule of Law Program continues supporting educational initiatives that foster communication between courts and communities. On February 28, the media agency Kutaisi Post, with the Program's support, organized a visit to the Kutaisi City Court for 23 students and two teachers from Kutaisi #23 Public School.
During the visit, court Chairman Nikoloz Margvelashvili welcomed the visitors and provided a comprehensive overview of the Kutaisi City Court's structure and operations, including insights into jury trials. He emphasized the significance of jury trials, addressing the children's questions about the types of cases heard by juries.
The students expressed interest in the role of judges in society and the challenges of pursuing a career as a judge. Judge Margvelashvili explained the judicial appointment process and emphasized a judge’s important role in society.
Additionally, the court showed the visitors the mediation room, where they learned about the concept of mediation and its role in the justice system.
To enrich their experience, Judge Margvelashvili invited the children to observe a criminal trial, providing them with firsthand exposure to courtroom proceedings and a deeper understanding of participants' rights and responsibilities.
The event was organized within the framework of the USAID Rule of Law Program implemented by the Kutaisi Post. Similar study tours have been previously conducted in Kutaisi Appellate, Samtredia, and Zestaponi regional courts.
