On December 1-2, 2023, student-paralegals from Imereti and Adjara underwent training on Human Trafficking. A total of 54 student-paralegals acquired knowledge and valuable insights into the subject.
Professor Mari Meskhi from Ilia State University led the training on human trafficking. She spoke about the concept of human trafficking, its root causes, and its consequences. Additionally, she discussed international and domestic mechanisms prohibiting human trafficking, explaining the distinctions between human trafficking and migrant smuggling. She also explored the various types and stages of human trafficking.
Throughout the training session, paralegals actively participated in discussions and engaged in working sessions, gaining practical experience through hypothetical case studies.
Professor Meskhi also shared an electronic version of her recent publication with the students, which has now become a textbook in several higher education institutions. Furthermore, she donated copies of her book to the libraries of Kutaisi Akakai Tsereteli State University and Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University.
This initiative empowers future paralegals by furnishing them with the necessary knowledge and skills to offer accessible legal assistance to their respective communities.
The training was part of the USAID Rule of Law Program-supported informational campaign "Make Justice Accessible for All: Paralegal Initiative," implemented in collaboration with the state-funded Legal Aid Service.
