On September 25 and October 10, 2024, the USAID Rule of Law Program (“the Program”) delivered two lectures on People-Centered Justice (PCJ) and Access to Justice to 70 students and academic staff from the law faculties of the University of Georgia and Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani University (SabaUni).
The Program’s Community Engagement Advisor Dr. Tim Bunjevac delivered a lecture on PCJ and answered questions from students. He provided examples of global court-community engagement practices and exposed the participants to successful examples of court outreach initiatives that can bring about greater public trust in the court system.
The Program’s Community Engagement Specialist Mariam Gobronidze followed by delivering a presentation on the importance of fair trial and the judiciary's role in social welfare, discussing barriers to justice such as low legal awareness, accessibility issues, and financial, cultural, and social challenges.
Ketevan Givishvili, Quality Assurance Manager at the University of Georgia's School of Law, and Giorgi Goradze, Dean of SabaUni Law Faculty, expressed their gratitude to the USAID Rule of Law Program and the American people for their continued support of Georgia, while also highlighting their interest in expanding collaboration between the universities and the Program.
